The Art Gallery at Shopping Itaguaçu will host, until May 1st, the exhibition “Amazônia Viva”, by José Manuel Sanchez. Result of an expedition made by the artist in mid-2013: the show is an invitation to feel and experience the exuberance of a poetic and truly living Amazon, through stunning photographs of nature, in addition to real characters from indigenous tribes and peoples of the region .
“For many, or the overwhelming majority of people, the Amazon has always been a kind of lost continent inhabiting the imagination of humans, every day more and more desolate by the degradation of the planet. It would perhaps be the symbolic neighbor of Atlantis, the submerged continent, a kind of parallel universe like the myth of “Ratanabá”, capable of feeding fantasies and contributing to our sanity in these crazy times”, summarizes the artist.
“Poet of the Lens” as he is known, José Manuel Sanchez was born in Seville, Spain, but already considers himself Brazilian by choice. He worked in the financial market, in addition to participating, in the mid-90s, as one of the founders of the commercial internet in Brazil with the creation of search portals. However, it was in the visual arts and literature that he found the “oxygen” needed to live, rather than survive. Painting and writing entered his life from the age of 9 and he started photography at the age of 15. He became known and recognized as an important nature photographer... of all nature that represents the human symbolic framework.
For over 20 years, Sanchez has offered his art to the interior design environment, followed by the community of Specifiers (architects, interior designers, decorators and lovers of Fine Arts) and having participated in exhibitions such as Artefacto, Black and Casa Cor, for example. His work is also present in the most important decoration stores in the country.
The Itaguaçu + Arte Project honors and promotes local artists, always curated by Chris Ribeiro, in monthly exhibitions. The exhibition "Amazônia Viva", features exclusive works, and is open for visitation until May 1st, on Floor L2, with free access. For more information, check out the mall's social networks.
The Exhibition also launches the Amazônia Viva Collection, which includes 150 works that can be purchased, including those customized by the author.
