Florianópolis yielded for the 14th time the Ironman Brazil 2014, the biggest event of Triathlon of the world. More than two thousand national and international athletes arrive in the city for the competition, with the objective of surpassing their limits beyond the 3,8 kilometers of swimming, 180,2 kilometers of cycling and 42,2 kilometers of running. The top 50 finishers are qualified for the world stage, the Ironman World Championship, which takes place in Hawaii in October.
The race starts at 7 am, with departure from Jurerê Internacional beach, in front of the Taikô Restaurant. Competitors swim a distance of 960 meters in the first part, 250 meters in the second, heading towards the beach swimming 945 meters. Arriving, travel 70 meters, returning to the water, starting the penultimate route of 775 meters. After, 150 meters, finishing with the last strokes for 650 meters until the beach. Afterwards, the cycling race, with 180 km, given in two 2 km laps. Athletes depart from Jurerê to the city center, bypassing a total of four returns and following to the Canasvieiras interchange, returning to Jurerê and thus starting the second round. Finally, the 90 km race course is covered in a long lap of 42 km and two short laps: the first of 22 km and the second of 9 km. It starts in front of the diffusion area, bypassing a good part of Jurerê Internacional. In the same neighborhood, the 11 race returns are established, where they delimit the competitors' path. The long turn ends at Av. dos Buzios, where the competitors will run for another 4 km until the final finish, located on the same avenue.
