Talking About the Museum – “The archive at MASC, possibilities for thinking about different museum institutions”

In the month of the 22nd National Museum Week, the Santa Catarina State Museum System (SEM/SC) promotes a new edition of the discussion cycle "Conversando Sobre Museu". The meeting will take place on May 7th, from 14pm to 16:30pm, at Santa Catarina Art Museum (MASC), and will have as its theme "The archive at MASC, possibilities for thinking about different museological institutions".

This edition of the meeting will be in partnership with the Educational Action Center of the Santa Catarina Art Museum (NAE/MASC) and will take place in a round table format, in person, lasting 2h30. The event will have the participation of Dr. Suely Lima de Assis Pinto (Federal University of Goiás) and Dr. Maria Helena Rosa Barbosa (Santa Catarina Art Museum), who will mediate.

The discussion cycle “Talking about the Museum” is an action of SEM/SC, which consists of holding meetings with the aim of reflecting on different topics of interest to the museological field in Santa Catarina, as well as discussing new perspectives and different conceptions of work for the sector. The meetings, in a round table format, are held in different regions of Santa Catarina, free of charge, comprising lectures and debates between participants. 

About the participants

Dr. Suely Lima de Assis Pinto: Graduated in Visual Arts from the Federal University of Goiás (1984), Master in Brazilian Education from the Faculty of Education - Federal University of Goiás (2003) and PhD in History from the Faculty of History - Federal University of Goiás (2011). At university she dedicated herself to research in art and education, contemporary art, gender, educational processes and visual poetics. His doctoral thesis is about MASC and resulted in the publication of the book “Archive, museum, contemporary: the fabrication of the concept of art”. In the field of poetic production, she is a printmaker and papermaker. She develops research with natural fibers from the cerrado and their possibility as paper for engraving. These fibers, weaves in the paper, constituted an integral part of the process of creating it. She is currently a retired professor at the Federal University of Goiás-Jataí campus and an artist.

Dr. Maria Helena Rosa Barbosa (mediator): PhD in Human Sciences from the Interdisciplinary Postgraduate Program in Human Sciences (PPGICH) at the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC), Master in Visual Arts, in the research line Teaching Visual Arts, from the Postgraduate Program in Visual Arts (PPGAV), Arts Center (CEART), Santa Catarina State University (UDESC). Graduated in Art Education from UDESC, she is a teacher, art educator and curator. She has extensive experience in the area of ​​Arts, with an emphasis on teaching art in formal and non-formal education, especially in educational and cultural actions in museums and mediation in exhibitions with different audiences. Professor at Fundação Catarinense de Cultura (FCC), working as an art educator at the Museu de Arte de Santa Catarina (MASC), since 2003, she also gives lectures, courses and education workshops in museums, as well as producing educational materials and curated exhibitions with works from the MASC collection. She was a founding member and coordinator of the Santa Catarina Museum Educators Network (REM-SC), from April 2010 to April 2015.
