Tamar Project – South Tamar

The base of Projeto Tamar is open for visitation every day, including holidays. O Open Sea Turtle Museum has four of the five species that spawn in Brazil, keeping a squad of 10 animals in different sizes and life stages.

Depending on the time, visitors can follow the feeding of these animals. In addition, they have access to information about the project's activities, a video room, curiosities about sea turtles, threats to the populations of these animals and other attractions. Schools can schedule visits in advance by phone.

Florianópolis has hosted, since April 2005, the 22nd base of the Tamar project, with the objective of raising awareness and sensitizing the population about the need to conserve sea turtles, avoiding industrial and artisanal fishing on the south coast of the country. An attempt is made to reduce the impact of fishing these animals.
