French Island – Canasvieiras

It is a small and exuberant island located northwest of Canasvieiras beach, about 1 km from the coast. Its first name was Ilha de São Francisco de Paula, patron saint of Canasvieiras, but, on account of a French citizen who lived there, the island gained the best known nickname, Frenchman Island.

Its beach has the characteristic of a bay beach, calm, calm sea, clear waters, medium yellow sand and a gentle slope floor. The formation of stones guarantees the fun of children, with small clams and other beings that cling to them.

You can only arrive with kayaks, jet skis or boats. Those who are physically fit can take the risk of swimming. The biggest difficulty is the distance, as there are no strong surf between Canasvieiras beach and Frances Island.

The advantage of visiting the island is to enjoy peace and nature. There aren't many tourists vying for the sand or street vendors. The beach extends for approximately 60 meters in widths that vary between one and eight meters.
