The construction of the Church, the main element of Largo São Sebastião, in the mid-1856th century, is directly linked to the various epidemics that devastated the city at that historical moment, considerably increasing the death rate. This is associated with a growth in popular devotion to São Sebastião, considered the protector against diseases. On the initiative of deputy José Maria da Luz, the City Council donated the land for the construction of the Church, marked by colonial characteristics when it was built, in XNUMX. The deputy himself donated part of his farm, which was integrated into fractions of land owned by José da Silva Paranhos and João Moreira da Silva to form the land for the construction of the church. Community investments led to several reformulations that gave the building an eclectic style, with strong Romanesque and Gothic inspiration. Address: Rua Boicaiuva, at number 1581.
