Archaeological Sites

Praia da Galheta has archaeological sites with rock inscriptions and lithic workshops. Sharpeners, polishers and stone tools are found, signs of the presence of people in this area for about six thousand years. In one of the stone workshops at Ponta do Caçador (north coast of Galheta) more than 80 worked rock blocks were catalogued. Agal (Association Amigos da Galheta) asks all visitors to archaeological heritage to pay attention to historical preservation and do not take anything from the beach as souvenir.
