Due to the visit of Emperor of Brazil Dom Pedro II to Desterro, in 1845, Saint Anthony of Lisbon was the location of the island chosen to receive the first cobbled street in Santa Catarina.

At the time, it was very common to use the so-called "pé-de-moleque", a type of pavement with rough and irregular stones, reminiscent of the famous peanut-based candy. Although there is no record, many authors claim that this type of pavement, chosen to pave the first streets in the villages of colonial Brazil, arose from an attempt to reuse the stones that were used as ballast in the holds of ships that came from Portugal.

Dom Pedro II and Empress Thereza Christina they arrived in Santo Antônio de Lisboa on October 21, the ninth day of their visit, and were received at nine o'clock in the morning by people from all over the north of the island. His procession passed by the Church and the townhouse specially built for his visit, however, it started to rain around 11 am and Dom Pedro II canceled his entire schedule of visits to the other regions of the island and retired to his quarters. on the steamer Imperatriz, accompanied by his entire entourage.
