Gravatá Beach Trail

The Otter Colony
Gravatá Beach Trail

Many residents of Santa Catarina Island are not even aware that the Gravatá Beach exists. The name is given because of the plant that is all over the beach, which has a small stretch of sand of about 60 meters - between the soft beach and Joaquina Beach. A sign from the Parapente Sul school marks the entrance to the trail, on Estrada Geral da Barra da Lagoa, at the height of the old nightclub Latitude 27.

The walk is short and easy, even though the beginning is uphill. Arriving at the top of the hill, you will find the point used for paragliding jumps, which color the sky of Praia Mole. Just go down to get to Gravatá Beach, where there is a small colony of fishermen.

According to biologists, at dawn it is possible to find otters on the beach. These carnivores, which basically eat fish, form a colony on Gravatá Beach, but have already been hunted by fishermen, who spread traps around the place. Arriving at the coast, in Ponta do Gravatá, you can see part of Praia da Joaquina and Praia Mole.
