Unusual corners of Lagoa da Conceição
Going over the hill that separates the community of Ratones from Praia do Saquinho, you reach the Conceição Lagoon. From the top of the mountain, after a steep climb, there is an unusual view of the Lagoon, in all its exuberance. This trail is one of several that connect to the Lagoon coast. It was opened in the forest when the only ways to reach communities in the interior of the Island were on foot or on horseback. According to biologists, in Ratones you can still find the broad-snouted caiman, which inhabits the region's rivers.
The trail starts right after the last houses in the region known as Canto do Moreira. From there, go straight ahead along a well-marked path, which, after going up and down the mountain, connects to the Coastal Path. From the countless footprints left on the trail, it can be seen that it is still used by the residents of this isolated region of the coast. Sometimes it is easier to reach downtown Florianópolis by walking to Ratones for about 30 minutes than waiting for Cooperbarco boats. The road was once the main route for the flow of agricultural production and flour mills.
