Orlando Scarpelli Stadium

Orlando Scarpelli Stadium is the official headquarters of Figueirense Futebol Clube, a team founded in 1921 by a group of sportsmen who gathered under a fig tree in the old neighborhood of Figueira, central region of Florianópolis. The stadium began to be built in 1940, and the works were only completed in 1945, after the signing of the definitive assignment of the land to the club by the industrialist Orlando Scarpelli, one year and six months after the integration of the Estreito region to the municipality of Florianópolis. . In the 1930s, there was a hat shop belonging to Orlando Scarpelli. The headquarters underwent its first significant expansions in 1973. To adapt the field to the needs arising from the club's participation in the National Championship, three tunnels, new changing rooms and metallic bleachers were built with a capacity for approximately 20.000 people. In the following decades, the metal structures were gradually replaced by reinforced concrete constructions and the social stands were covered. In the early 1990s, the stadium could hold up to 30.000 people. Between 1999 and 2005, the stadium underwent important structural improvements, such as the expansion of changing rooms for the base divisions, implementation of electronic turnstiles, construction of new bathrooms, renovation of bars and the modernization of the irrigation and drainage system. Such improvements, as well as an ambitious expansion project, were not enough to guarantee the arena the status of hosting the 2014 World Cup. As a result, a series of significant changes that would occur in the landscape of the Strait were cancelled. Orlando Scarpelli Stadium received its largest audience in 1975, in a match between Figueirense and Vasco da Gama, won by a goal scored by the Rio de Janeiro club. At the time, 26.660 people were present. Currently, the stadium has a capacity of 19.908 spectators. The Memorial is located next to the club's secretariat, which can be visited free of charge from Monday to Friday from 9 am to 12 pm and from 13 pm to 18 pm and on Saturdays from 9 am to 12 pm. Trophies, shirts and the Historical and Photographic Archive are available for public appreciation, which is not open on Saturdays.
