The São Caetano da Ponta Grossa Battery was built in 1765, according to a project by Sergeant-Mór Francisco José da Rocha, being located approximately 200 meters east of the São José da Ponta Grossa Fortress.
Its function was to complement the defenses of the Ponta Grossa Fortress, giving it cover on the side facing Jurerê and Canasvieiras Beach, which was, until then, unprotected. It was built in the government of Francisco de Souza e Menezes, being armed with six cannons that were there at the time of the Spanish invasion, which took place in 1777.

Today, from this battery in ruins, a guardhouse base, stretches of walls and vestiges of a small building that would have served as Casa da Guarda and Casa da Palamenta remain.
Location and access method
The Battery of São Caetano da Ponta Grossa is located in Praia do Forte, at the end of Praia de Jurerê, about 25 km from the center of Florianópolis.
The place can be reached by car, bus or on foot.
