Florianopolis Botanical Garden

Opened on September 24, 2016, the Florianopolis Botanical Garden Park occupies an area of 19 hectares in the Itacorubi neighborhood. It is located next to the Córrego Grande Ecological Park and was inaugurated to be another ecological tour option in the central region of the city.

Despite its name, the park still does not have a wide variety of native plants. There is a community garden where species ranging from mint to watercress are planted. Next to it is another space with a model garden where each plant is identified as a vital part of the human body. There are also some exotic species identified as imperial palms and walnut trees, as well as a large area of mangroves around the park to provide trees for the environment.

Having just opened, the place is still being shaped and increasing the variety of plants - something that can go unnoticed for those who just want a shade to sit and relax amidst nature.

Leisure and sports options

The driveway leads down to a lake, with a small trail around it that leads to other areas of the park. In the central area there are several tables and chairs. As it is allowed to enter with food, the suggestion is to take options for a good picnic, because there are several trees around that protect visitors from the sun.

After lunch, children can have fun on the slide, swing or other toys on the playground next door. It is quite common to see the little ones driving children's tricycles or even taking advantage of the park paths to learn to ride a bicycle with training wheels.

green culture

There is also space for those who want to practice some sport in the midst of nature. In addition to the traditional walk, slackline tape is installed on site. Next to it is a beach volleyball court with a net, where you only need a ball and a few friends to play a game.

Next to the entrance there is a visitor center where some exhibits are presented. In front of the place there is a person identified as a Comcap employee who can help the visitor. The park has other buildings that can still be used to improve research without interfering with the environment.

One example is a shed at the back of the forest that is being renovated to host environmental education courses. There are also plans to build an auditorium, community kitchen and space for reading.

No cars and pets

The park does not have its own parking space. For those who go by car, the tip is to leave the car on the streets near the place. For those who ride a bike, there is the option of leaving the skinny one right at the entrance to the park in an indicated place.

Pets are also not allowed, as in the Córrego Grande, Peri and Maciço do Morro da Cruz parks. Floram, the environmental authority of Florianópolis, does not allow access to domestic animals in conservation units and ecological parks in the municipality. Comcap, responsible for the maintenance of the park, also reinforces that the prohibition of the permanence and transit of animals in places of free access to the public is provided for in Municipal Law 094, of 2001.
