The start of construction of Church of the Third Order of São Francisco da Penitência (Church of San Francisco) date of 1803. In 1804, the portals arrived and in 1815 it was inaugurated. Only three years later did the church receive the bells. With features of the Baroque and Neoclassical styles, the church still maintains its original architecture.
It was listed by the municipality and the state. Noting the existence of a side gate, it is important to note that this gave access to the old cemetery, which was transferred to the island's strait and, according to popular tales, at the time of its transfer, the workers dug a hole and found there a body in perfect condition. It was Mrs. Easter Maria de Jesus, which would have been placed in a new urn and which for some time was placed in this church on the day of commemoration of the dead.
