Friar's Stone

A Friar's Stone can be considered an archaeoastronomical site and is located on the coast of Barra da Lagoa. The two stones allow the observation of an interval of the horizon. Being there, you have no option to move to the north, as there is the sea, nor to the south, as it has the beginning of Morro do Farol da Barra. Standing in front of Pedra do Frade and noting the visible horizon gap between the two rocks, you witness the sunrise at the time of the southern hemisphere's summer solstice, around December 21-22. The observation point is located 50 meters from Pedra do Frade and a stone with wavy lines was found in this position, cataloged by Keler Lucas as SIV-6. This same site is related to the winter solstice, just position yourself southwest of Pedra do Frade and notice the sunrise between the two rocks. Continuing the path along the coast, there are four other petroglyphs in the form of a network, crossed and wavy lines. This is significant as it indicates that there was human presence at the site. How to get there: After crossing the metallic bridge and Prainha do Leste, better known as Praia da Barra, following the Natural Pools Trail. About a 10-minute walk along the coast, you can see two stone columns that stand out in relation to the environment. Edited information from Alexandre Amorim's article.
