O Galheta Municipal Natural Park has a total area of 149,3 hectares, covering the Barra da Lagoa, the entire beach of Galheta and the hill that surrounds it until the soft beach.
In the early 80s, the movement for environmental preservation began to challenge real estate speculation, which would harm the greatest natural beauties of Santa Catarina Island.
The persistent work of naturists, ecologists and politicians, aware of the need to preserve one of the biggest tourist attractions in Florianópolis, led to the creation of the Galheta Municipal Park, through Law 3455/90, sanctioned by Decree 698/94.
