Red River Ecological Trail

A Different and Special Trail

The Rio Vermelho Ecological Trail has a dual social function. In addition to providing moments of leisure, through contact with nature, all visits are conducted by an Environmental Monitor from the NGO R3 Animal, who tells the story of the animals on the Trail with the intention of encouraging the visitor to develop an environmental conscience, through reflection on how negligence with nature and mistreatment of animals can be harmful to the environment.

Rio Vermelho Park

In a route of approximately one kilometer in length, the visitor has contact with wild animals that are no longer able to survive in nature, because they have been victims of ill-treatment, illegal possession or trafficking or because they acquire physical disabilities after being injured in lines. of kite with wax, electric wires or wire fences. There are 16 nurseries, with about 150 wild animals, where adults and children have direct contact with the region's fauna and flora. There are more than 35 cataloged species that can be visited on site, such as monkeys, tortoises, aracuãs, macaws and parrots.

The Rio Vermelho Ecological Trail was inaugurated in April 2014 and underwent a period of adaptation of the animals. In the park, unlike the traditional trails, where the visitor follows a path marked on the floor, two thirds of the route is made on wooden decks, which reduces the environmental impacts generated by the traffic of visitors on the fauna and soil of the region. Only in the last part of the trail does the visitor go through a stretch on the sand floor. Visitation is free and the space is also accessible for people with mobility difficulties.

Access is at Rio Vermelho State Park, located near Lagoa da Conceição and Praia do Moçambique.

Praia do Moçambique, which is close to the trail
