Fernando Machado Square

Located in front of Praça XV de Novembro, it was the site of the first Municipal Public Market and the model of the Hercílio Luz bridge, which served for the symbolic inauguration of the work. It was in the Fernando Machado square that the Miramar was located, a famous municipal warehouse and meeting point for the city's intellectual elite, which disappeared with the Baia Sul landfill. Recently, the square underwent a renovation that incorporated pillars that mark the place where the marina used to be. In addition to panels telling the story of Miramar, the square holds the statue of Colonel Fernando Machado, who died in 1868 in Itororó, one of the battles of the Paraguayan War.
