Alvaro de Carvalho Theater

The Álvaro de Carvalho Theater opened on September 7, 1875, on the day Brazil celebrated 53 years of independence. Initially, it was named Teatro Santa Isabel, in honor of the princess, already demonstrating the inhabitants' penchant for the monarchy. In 1894, the place served as a prison for the emperor's supporters in a reaction by the Federal Government to the Federalist Revolution, which culminated in the Anhatomirim Massacre. Since then, the Álvaro de Carvalho Theater has been named after the first playwright from Santa Catarina. Address: Praça Pereira Oliveira, 26, next to Rua Marechal Guilherme
