San Jose Historical Museum

The São José Historical Museum is located in an Old House, considered an architectural landmark, built around 1772, . The only building intact in its original construction, being then an architectural landmark, it represents the Portuguese rustic colonial of great dimensions. The building once housed the National Guard, served as a residence, Military School and became a tenement. It currently houses on the upper floor the San Jose Municipal Historical Museum and downstairs to Municipal Public Library. In addition to safeguarding the cultural asset, the Museum interacts with other educational and cultural agencies. Its collection is eclectic and has collections of porcelain, weapons, furniture, musical instruments and also a little of the Azorean culture.
