Ethnographic Museum House of the Azores

The Casa dos Açores Ethnographic Museum is located in a townhouse that was built in the first half of the 1978th century by the farmer and slave owner, João Ramalho da Silva Pereira. In 2004, after having undergone several owners and renovations, the house was acquired by the Government of the State of Santa Catarina, which turned it into a Museum in 400, becoming an institution of the Fundação Catarinense de Cultura (FCC). The Casa dos Açores Ethnographic Museum is dedicated to the research, development and preservation of Azorean culture in Santa Catarina. It has a specialized library, with XNUMX books donated by the Government of the Azores, in addition to several historical documents, handicrafts and folkloric costumes from that archipelago. In addition, other objects such as period furniture were also donated by the former owners of the house, the Madeira Reis family. Currently, the Casa dos Açores Ethnographic Museum presents a permanent exhibition of sacred works, with pieces that were used in whale hunting, miniature replicas of sugarcane flour mills in Biguaçu. Pieces of sieve and bobbin lace are also on display. And on site, you still have the option to buy handicrafts and books by authors from Santa Catarina. The Sobrado is part of the Luso-Azorean Complex, formed by the Church of São Miguel Arcanjo and cemetery, including farm, carioca, cacimba and slave fountain and Aqueduct, consisting of the São Miguel Waterfall and lithic workshop. The Museum is open to tourists and schools, always monitored by a guide.
