Destination of the Lagoinha do Leste Trail: The Wildest Beach
Tourists consider it the most beautiful on the island. The residents of south of the island guarantee that she is the most mysterious in Florianópolis. Ecologists defend it as if it were the last beach in the world. Whatever your opinion on the Lagoinha do Leste Beach, she is unique. The beach still preserves the characteristics of when the first immigrants arrived in these lands. Lagoinha, as it is affectionately called by the islanders, impresses its visitors with its beauty, its wild air and its mysteries.
A beach with open sea and crystalline waters located in the south of the island, Lagoinha is squeezed between two cliffs that enter the ocean, forming almost a small cove of little more than a kilometer. Behind, a vast Atlantic Forest guarantees the feeling of going back in time. The beach has the company of a lagoon, which gives its name to the place, close to the left shore. With warm and dark waters, the lagoon hides behind the sandbank, originating from a river that rises on the hill.
Even isolated - you can only reach it on foot or by boat -, Lagoinha receives many visitors in the summer. They walk the centuries-old trail and use the beach for swimming, diving and surfing. Like the great resorts on the island, Lagoinha do Leste is already feeling the first effects of exploration.
the beach is perfect for camping, since, in addition to the beauty, it still has shade and drinking water along the left coast. The right coast has a fountain with running water during periods with more rain. The only problem, says the legend, are the witches who often use it for their rituals.
Extensive and Visually Beautiful Trail
The best way to get to Lagoinha do Leste is Matadeiro Beach, coming back through south swamp. Thus, the longest and heaviest section is tackled first, leaving the Morro do Pântano do Sul for the return, when you are inevitably more tired. As with any long trail, it is good to start the hike in the morning, as there is more time to enjoy the scenery and the beach.
From the right shore of Praia do Matadeiro, the sand ends and the trail appears. The first 30 minutes of walking are the most difficult and tiring. It is necessary to make steep climbs and, in some points, the bush is a little closed. In the middle of the way there is water, a stream cuts the trail and offers fresh water and shade. After this stretch, the path is calm, without ascents and of incredible beauty, revealing at every moment a new and fascinating landscape. During an hour and a half, the trail borders the cliffs, passing through Ponta do Quebra-Remo, Ponta do Facão and Ponta da Lagoinha.

At Ponta do Facão, a rock of more than 15 meters guards a small cave bathed by the waters. It takes a bit of courage to get there, as you'll have to go down the slope to the sea. Going past Ponta da Lagoinha, you reach the beach.
The way back is along the right shore, going up the trail that leaves in Pântano do Sul. It's easier and faster than Matadeiro's, but it's not as attractive. It takes about 50 minutes to walk up and down the hill that separates the beach from Pântano do Sul. The ascent is steep, but the trail is open and offers no obstacles. Most of the time the trees provide good shade. The most beautiful moment is when you see the beach from the top of the hill.
