The city's first customs house burned down in 1866. To replace it, this neo-classical building was built in 1876. On the ground floor there is an art gallery, a craft fair and a bar.
In front of you is Largo da Alfândega, a place for popular demonstrations and concerts. There are stalls selling earthenware and a Tourist Information Office.
