Sanitation Museum

The Sanitation Museum is a remnant of the first sewerage network implemented in the city, between 1909 and 1916. It operated by means of electricity, together with three other stations, located at Praça dos Namorados, Praça Celso Ramos and Agronomica. The small building was built in a neo-Islamic style, very widespread in Europe, mainly at the end of the XNUMXth century, and inspired by the architecture of Islamic countries. After housing a public urinal for several years, the building was formally transformed into a Sanitation Museum, organized by the Social Communication Office of the Water and Sanitation Company. Its collection consisted of equipment, maps, tools, photos and other objects related to the history of sanitation in the Capital and in the State. Even today, in front of the Museum, it is possible to admire some items remaining from that period, such as a large metal spout and part of the balustrade that served to limit the pier and the sea. Currently, the building is closed and protected by fences to prevent depredations. Address: Rua Antônio Luz, near the City of Florianópolis Urban Terminal
