Gnocchi

Restaurants specializing in Italian food serve gnocchi in Florianópolis. In other places, with a diverse menu, gnocchi is sometimes included on special dates, such as on the 29th. During the winter, there are more options for places offering gnocchi, as in the hot months the preference is for lighter foods. Despite this, Florianópolis has old and traditional Italian restaurants, which remain open and maintain their quality at all times of the year. Curiosity: The tradition of eating gnocchi on the 29th comes from the legend that Saint Pantaleon, on December 29th, disguised as a wanderer, roamed the streets of a small village in Italy. He knocked on the door of a large, poor family and said he was hungry. The family shared their meal with him, a gnocchi. After the meal, the family noticed that under each of the plates was a lot of money. Therefore, the 29th of each month became the day of the Gnocchi of Fortune or Luck. To follow the ritual, place a note under the plate and eat the first seven pieces standing up, making a wish for each of them. Harmonization: As the gnocchi is just the pasta served as a base, the pairing depends a lot on the sauce that complements the dish. For white and light sauces, Brut sparkling wine; young or mature white wine; light or medium-bodied young red wine. For red sauces, sparkling Brut or mature red wine of medium to robust body.
