Esteves Júnior Square

In the place where Praça Esteves Júnior was built there was, between 1761 and 1765, Fort São Francisco Xavier, which was intended to reinforce the island's defense system. It is estimated that the construction collapsed around 1840. In 1890 the square, which was initially called Lauro Müller, was installed. Between 1998 and 1999, some works were carried out, and with them three cannons of the old fort were unearthed, which today ornament the place.
