House of Memory

The Casa da Memória de Florianópolis is a documentation center linked to the Franklin Cascaes Cultural Foundation of Florianópolis. Inaugurated on March 30, 2004, its objective is to collect, gather and organize bibliographic, iconographic, phonographic and audiovisual records related to the city's history, memory, identity and cultural production. Its collection is open to the public and, among the more than 45 thousand documentary pieces, items linked to the memory of radio in the city stand out, especially from the composer Zininho and other radio professionals. Protected by municipal laws, the building was built in 1929 to host the former Partido Republicano Catarinense (PRC, as the initials “PRC” still indicate at the top of the entrance door. Then, between 1949 and 1978, it housed the Regional Electoral Court of Santa Catarina (TRE/SC). Subsequently, until 1995, it hosted the Santa Catarina section of the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB). Built in an eclectic, art nouveau style, the building occupies an area of ​​470 square meters. long openings, wooden frames, frosted glass and geometric recesses.
