Swimming at Daniela Beach

Due to its calm and warm waters, Daniela beach is an excellent option for swimming in open water. But you have to be careful, because swimming in the sea is very different from swimming in a pool or in rivers and dams. As it is a long and winding beach, there is only one lifeguard point near the right corner of the beach. During the summer season it is possible to find pairs of lifeguards walking around the beach. During the rest of the year, there is no surveillance service and attention must be redoubled. Because of strong currents that can drag the swimmer to the middle of the channel, away from the beach, swimming should be avoided in two specific points that tend to register most cases of drowning, often with slicing victims: The stretch from Pontal da Daniela, at the mouth of the River Ratones and at Ponta do Forte. It is also worth remembering some basic precautions: Children should not swim without adult supervision; Recognize your skills and your limits at sea; Try not to go deeper than the waist; Avoid bathing in places with currents, obstacles and near river mouths and above all never swim after drinking alcoholic beverages.
