Traditional Jurerê retains aspects of the older residents and local culture. It is a beach that is home to summer homes for Florianopolis residents and families from other states who choose the island of Santa Catarina as a place to spend their holidays.
In this area, the beach is quite calm, ideal for families with children and the elderly. There is a more residential area, with houses that have their backyards opening onto the sand of the beach.
People can be found jogging and walking, cycling and practicing sports, especially nautical ones.
At night, the bars welcome the local public in open spaces, where you can follow the movement of cars and pedestrians.

Natural Characteristics
It starts at Ponta dos Morretes (border with Canasvieiras) and the beach extends to the Fort of Sao Jose da Ponta Grossa. Due to social conventions, the beach of Jurerê Tradicional is shared with Jurerê Internacional, but there is no physical barrier.
It is a long beach, with long and calm waves, fine sand in a light yellow tone. The water temperature is warm during the summer.
The sea is characterized as intermediate, that is, it has a medium slope, with the surf occurring at a distance close to the beach. The relief of the bottom presents irregular sand banks, where the waves break, which are usually boxed and sliding. Another feature is the average salinity of the sea.
The total beach has an extension of approximately 3.2 km with sand strips that vary between 6 and 15 meters in width.

Jurerê's story
The first name of the village was Praia da Ponta Grossa, in reference to the geographic formation chosen to locate a point of military defense of the Island of Santa Catarina. There, the São José da Ponta Grossa fortress was built, from the batteries of São Caetano and Nova do Pontal.
Next to the fort, a community was organized and developed, dedicating itself to fishing, agriculture and work related to the fortress.
In 1955, a real estate company called Jurerê was responsible for the first subdivision plan for the beach, which shocked the more traditional residents. The community has experienced real estate impacts and major urban development. Developments aimed at tourism were completed and the resort lost the characteristic of a small village.
The term Jurerê comes from the language of the Carijós Indians, who named the narrow channel between the island and the mainland Y-Jurerê-Mirim, which means Small Water Mouth.
