Map Location Praia de Jurerê Internacional

Located in the north of Santa Catarina Island, between the neighborhoods Daniela, Traditional Jurerê e Canasvieiras, Jurerê Internacional is considered the most sophisticated neighborhood in Florianópolis.

Result of an urban project focused on sustainability, everything was carefully planned to result in a unique place on the Island.

What you can find in Jurerê Internacional are wide and tree-lined streets, millionaire mansions, specific areas for commerce and services, ample parking, exclusive security and sanitation and, above all, organization and nature.

The main road to cross Jurerê Internacional is Avenida dos Búzios, which is bordered, basically, by residences and buildings. It is also where the Jurerê Open Shopping is located, a space that concentrates a large part of the region's commerce.

At the end of the avenue we find one of the offices of Clube 12 de Agosto and access to the Forte beach. Between the neighborhood and Praia do Forte is the Fortress of São José da Ponta Grossa.

Parallel to Avenida dos Búzios is Avenida dos Dourados, where the Jurerê Sports Center is located. Open throughout the year, the Jurerê Sports Center offers different sports to practitioners of all ages. In addition, the space has a restaurant whose menu ranges from breakfast to happy hour.

However, the biggest attraction of the neighborhood continues to be the Jurerê beach, with its clear sands and greenish waters. In the background, motorboats and sailboats give a sophisticated touch to the look. On the waterfront, this task is done by Passeio dos Namorados, a charming boardwalk where residents take the opportunity to run, walk or simply admire the beach.

Jurerê Internacional also has small themed leisure areas, a cycling track and part of the Carijós Ecological Station area. Under the care of the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (ICMBio), the Station's main goal is the conservation of the mangrove ecosystem within Santa Catarina Island. Visits are possible, as long as they are monitored and with objectives aimed at environmental education.

History by Jurerê Internacional

The name of Jurerê Internacional has everything to do with the old and new residents of the place. “Jurerê” comes from the term “Y-Jurerê Mirim”, which in Tupi-Guarani means something like “small mouth of water”. This “small mouth” would be the channel between the Island and the Continent, today connected by bridges. The more recent “Internacional”, on the other hand, seems to be related to the project of an elegant and cosmopolitan neighborhood, connected to the great world resorts.

Initially, the occupation of the space that today corresponds to Jurerê Internacional was carried out by families from the Azores Island. The lands were in common use, which means that all residents had the possibility to raise cattle and extract wood for construction. Subsistence activities such as agriculture and fishing predominated. At that time, the region became known as “Caldeirão”.

With the construction of Hercílio Luz Bridge, in the 1920s, the land tenure regime changed from communal to private. As the bridge works required the appropriation of land close to the head of the island, the government compensated its owner, Antônio Amaro, with an extensive area in the Canasvieiras district. Amaro demarcated and fenced off these lands, but allowed the former residents to remain in their homes.

After Antônio Amaro's death, his widow had to prove possession of the land in court, as there was no document proving the transfer. For that, Osvaldo Bulcão Viana became her lawyer. The impasse only ended in 1935, when Aderbal Ramos da Silva, the future governor of the State of Santa Catarina, decided to buy the land.

Jurerê Internacional District - Location

From the 1950s onwards, discourses about the supposed tourist potential of Florianópolis began to circulate. It is in this context that Aderbal Ramos da Silva created Imobiliária Jurerê, whose main undertaking was the subdivision of the same name. The project was signed by Oscar Niemeyer, who was already a very famous architect at the time. However, for the project to get off the ground, the families who lived there had to be removed and this process did not always go smoothly.

In 1978, Grupo Habitasul began negotiations for the purchase of land in the Jurerê subdivision. Five years later, the company delivered the first part of the Jurerê Internacional subdivision, designed and executed to resemble the spas of the city of Miami. From then on, this part of Jurerê started to be clearly distinguished from the rest of the region, known today as Jurerê Tradicional.
