Map Location Praia do Cacupé

Cacupé is a neighborhood located in the region north from Santa Catarina Island, 16 km from the center of the city, between the neighborhoods Big bag e Saint Anthony of Lisbon.

Originally, Cacupé is part of the District of Santo Antônio de Lisboa. It occupies an area of approximately 2,45 km² and is home to a small resident population of no more than a thousand people.

Eclectic, the neighborhood mixes the modernity of large residential condominiums with the traditions of the native residents, who live off artisanal fishing and oyster farming.

An interesting detail to notice are the facades of these fishermen's houses, which face the road and face the sea.

On the way to busier neighborhoods like Canasvieiras e Jurerê International, Cacupé reveals itself as a pleasant place to gather friends and family in a more intimate and peaceful tour, away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

It is a region still little explored by mass tourism, despite having one of the most beautiful sunset views in the entire city.

As if that were not enough, Cacupé also has restaurants specialized in the typical dishes of the city and a boardwalk by the beach, where the visitor has the possibility to sit under the shade of the trees and contemplate a part of the portion continental of Floripa, the edge of Avenida Beira Mar Norte and Hercílio Luz Bridge. During the night, this entire region lights up, making the landscape a true postcard.

History

The word “cacupé” comes from the Tupi-Guarani indigenous language and means something like “the green behind the hill”. And, in fact, if we look over the map of Santa Catarina Island in search of Cacupé, it doesn't take long to realize that the neighborhood is hidden behind a chain of hills that conserves a good part of its exuberant original vegetation until the days of today.

Still in the XNUMXth century, a small group of Luso-Brazilian families from the village of São Francisco do Sul - located north of the coast of Santa Catarina - migrated to the island, giving rise to a new village. However, its official recognition only took place at the beginning of the XNUMXth century. This is how the parish of Santo Antônio de Lisboa was born, one of the most traditional in Florianópolis.

Due to its geographical configuration, Santo Antônio de Lisboa had subdivisions: in addition to the central town, there was also a small town to the north, called sambaqui, and another to the south, named Cacupé. The inhabitants of Cacupé basically lived on subsistence agriculture and fishery. Over time, cattle ranches and flour mills began to emerge.

Until a few years ago, the dynamics of the neighborhood remained largely unchanged. However, significant changes started to happen in the north of Santa Catarina Island; with the construction of the SC-401 highway in the 1970s, the region underwent an intense process of modernization and, from then on, began to attract tourists and investors from all corners of the country and the world.

At first, this expansion did not affect Cacupé so intensely. It wasn't until the 1990s, when investors finally turned their eyes to the neighborhood, that it underwent significant changes. Since then, several residential condominiums have emerged aimed at the part of the population with more purchasing power, which today coexist with the more traditional residents.
