located at the extreme north from Santa Catarina Island, Praia Brava is 34 km away from the center Florianópolis, between the neighborhoods of Ponta das Canas quality English from Rio Vermelho. Officially, Praia Brava is part of the District of Bom Jesus waterfall and it is not a neighborhood recognized by law.
Currently, its fixed population does not exceed 1.000 inhabitants. However, during the holiday and summer season this number can be five times higher, especially during the New Year and Carnival periods.
Praia Brava has very peculiar characteristics, as it is isolated between an area of coasts and hills. Access to the neighborhood is only via Avenida Epitácio Bittencourt, which starts at the Ponta das Canas interchange, goes up the hill and ends there.
The neighborhood is served by three bus lines, one Executive (1122), with air-conditioned cars, and two common ones, the D266, which connects the neighborhood to the central terminal of Florianópolis (TiCen), and the 266, which connects the neighborhood to the Canasvieiras Integrated Terminal (TiCan).

Full of luxury vertical condominiums and vacation homes, some hotels, inns and real estate agencies, the neighborhood has a limited tourist infrastructure, with few bars and restaurants, a market and some sundry shops.
Even with the continuous growth of the city, Praia Brava has maintained its main characteristics, the peace and the great presence of green and nature.

History
The name of the Praia Brava neighborhood was borrowed from the praia of the same designation. As it is an open beach, facing the ocean, it is exposed to the action of strong waves, which makes it one of the favorite spots for practitioners of surf in Florianopolis. In addition, the jet is intense and the holes are many, characteristics that demand the extra attention of bathers.
Surrounded by steep hills, the locality has never been home to an indigenous village or a village due to the great difficulty of access. However, it cannot be said that Praia Brava used to be deserted or totally isolated from the rest of the city, since a few fishing families lived in shacks close to the sea.
Between the 1960s and 1970s, Florianópolis underwent a major modernization process. Several public bodies were installed in the capital, including the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC). There was also a significant transformation in the urban fabric, with emphasis on the construction of Ponte Colombo Salles, the landfill at Baía Norte and the inauguration of the SC-401 highway.
In parallel with these actions, speeches about the supposed tourist potential of Florianópolis circulated throughout the country. Both this campaign and the arrival of state-owned companies attracted a large wave of tourists and new residents to the city, which boosted the civil construction sector and forced the city to think of strategies for a better occupation of urban land.
In this sense, the Laws of Green Areas, from 1977 and 1978, determined the resorts of Florianópolis that would become zones of urban expansion. An important point in this law was the definition that beaches of open sea and up to two kilometers in length would be considered zones of differentiated urbanization, that is, they would have specific projects, prepared by their owners and with the supervision of the competent planning agency.

In 1979, a curious event placed Praia Brava on the route of development of Florianópolis: businessman Nilton Ramos, a member of the traditional Ramos family, went camping with his children in the region. His experience there was apparently good, as he didn't take long to get in touch with the residents and offer to buy their land. From then on, it was just a matter of time before Nilton Ramos became the owner of almost the entire beach.
The entrepreneur's idea was to build a subdivision similar to those of Canasvieiras e Daniela. To do so, he hired the architect André Schmidt, who ended up developing an upscale neighborhood project. For the project to get off the ground, a partnership was needed between the Ceisa group, the company Sul Catarinense and the city of Florianópolis. In 1990, a group of Argentine businessmen built the first condominium in the subdivision, Três Américas.
Two years later, three other condominiums were already company to the first one. From 1993 onwards, several other developments were launched, which caused the population of the neighborhood to increase considerably. Through a lot of advertising, the resort also began to attract a greater number of tourists, which encouraged the owners of some of the properties to rent their properties in the summer.
