We can say that we are currently living in the age of applications and it is becoming more and more easy and fast to order and receive products in our homes. When Friday arrives, there's nothing better than ask for mcdonald's, pizza or some other tasty dish to start the weekend, right? In this post, we are going to bring some curiosities about food delivery in Brazil – also known as delivery or tele-delivery.

Popularity

Service home delivery It is an ancient practice and has existed for a long time, but it has only recently consolidated itself as a daily practice. Today, it is one of the most popular services in the world. The main reasons reported by users are the pleasure to receive a delicious meal in the comfort of home, convenience and practicality.

Technology

Delivery is increasingly accessible due to technological advances. Most orders take place over the internet, through specialized applications, messaging applications or through the restaurants' websites. The service has seen a significant increase in recent years, with the covid-19 pandemic and sanitary measures of social distancing, demanding more care with the user experience on websites and apps.

Issues

Brazil occupies the seventh position among the countries that order the most food and had a 44% growth in searches on food delivery in the first four months of the pandemic. In 2020, the country concentrated almost half of all delivery orders in Latin America. Overall, it is estimated that 15% of the Brazilian population receives food at home one or more times a week, 26% receives it less than once a month and 40% receives it between one and three times a month – this is almost half of the population.

User profile

More than 80% of food delivery orders in Brazil take place in urban areas, made by people up to 50 years old. These users also often order pharmacy items and market products. Half of the public uses the service sporadically, and the other half frequently. To choose a specific delivery platform, consumers are based on the following criteria: knowing that the product will arrive as advertised; receive discount coupons; realize that the restaurant has the best prices; have good usability on the restaurant's app or website.

Tendencies

Fast food is still the darling of consumers and leads the number of orders, but healthy eating has gained space in meal delivery services. There has been a growth in dark kitchens – restaurants that do not have a physical space and serve only with deliveries – and in the take away delivery model, in which the restaurant prepares the food for the consumer to pick up and take it to consume elsewhere.
