Culture and tourism together in Santa Catarina: what is missing?

Ziggy Marley at Praia do Campeche | Florianópolis and SC are generally off the route for international artists – can that change?

The people of Santa Catarina, as a rule, are already used to an uncomfortable fact, but no less real: the very few shows and international cultural events that pass through the state. If there is an event in Florianópolis, it is already a cause for commotion; this, however, is the exception rather than the rule.

There's the population size factor, of course, but that's just one point, and it's not one that's worth exploring because it's not a simple solution – it involves time and social and macroeconomic issues.

There are other ways, however, to encourage culture, business and everything that comes with it in cities like the capital, Balneário Camboriú and others, which are already tourist centers for other reasons. In fact, it has to do with this potential, which is perhaps being underexploited.

Currently, Santa Catarina's tourist attraction is almost entirely focused on nature – whether it's the beaches or the natural beauties of the interior. But is it possible to change this reality using some successful example? The answer is yes. Interestingly, it is possible to use the same actors that explore online casino and gaming platforms for that opportunity.

Old causes, new solutions

It would not be an unprecedented novelty for Brazil to return to the tourist route that goes beyond nature or business. Places like Rio de Janeiro and several cities in the Northeast have ample potential to unite both, and the same goes for Santa Catarina, which gives the impression that it is not taking advantage of its full potential, although many people already see it. new possibilities today.

One possibility, however, is to try to change this thinking, which can happen by joining natural beauty with more developed ventures. This has already worked, for example, in the case of Beto Carrero World, which takes advantage of what nature offers in the Penha region with one of the largest theme parks in the world, attracting thousands of tourists every year.

To bring in a successful foreign parallel: Las Vegas. The city that was literally built from scratch, in the middle of the desert, and just over 100 years ago (officially 1905) became, in a few decades, a civilizational and cultural landmark that continues to this day.

More than attracting visitors-consumers to itself, the city was able to attract great artists and combine the urban tourist potential with the artistic talent of first-rate names, starting with Frank Sinatra, passing through Elvis Presley and reaching names like Celine Dion, Britney Spears and so many others.

With this strategy, Las Vegas started to offer customers a fun combo that includes games, culture, world-class accommodation and an immersive experience that, in most cases, does not even have to go through the door of the hotel where you are staying – since there there are also style attractions resort, that is, themed restaurants, swimming pools and many other gimmicks.

Florianópolis, in turn, is established not in the desert, but in a paradise of beaches and Atlantic Forest biome. If gaming, in fact, is legalized in Brazil, the city and state of Santa Catarina as a whole offer unlimited potential for exploring new forms of business, including world-class resorts – something that could ultimately represent the great cultural and artistic incentive that is lacking in the region.

Today the Brazilian market is already a diamond for international companies that operate online casinos and sports betting sites, conglomerates that have a stock exchange presence and licenses in several countries around the world. Bringing nature, culture and leisure together is an excellent possibility for tourism and activating the entertainment industry.
