Debating the sameness

Television debates in electoral campaigns are increasingly boring and falling into a sameness that does not interest the “televoter”. If countless rules were not enough that prevent the confrontation of ideas and partisan programs of candidates, the figure of the mediator as controller of the norms established by the Regional Electoral Court becomes the boss of the hassle with unnecessary interventions to indicate available time for each participant in the debate. If the majority thinks that politics needs to change, it should start with electoral debates.

 

Repercussion

Even the newspaper articles relating to the televised debates the next day became a simple account of the sameness presented by the candidates. Worse, much worse than a press release without any comment from election campaign experts. And look, they received pages on the eve of the election.

 

Static

The televised debate of the candidates by RBS made me sleepy. As I understand it, nobody won, nobody lost. In fact, no one stood out, according to most people who watched the show. Much slept in the last block.

 

Our failure

The journalistic editors of TVs and debates make so much flash of the preparations and prepare so much, but at the time the technique broke. In the presentation of the candidates in the debate of the RBS, they got involved changing the participants and in the exhibition of the subjects it lacked category. If it depends on TV, the advisors of the candidates for mayor of the Capital urgently need to take a course in dealing with the camera and with their own opponents in terms of interacting and reacting. As for Gean, many complain about her voice. But election is not The Voice Brasil right!?

The Casa dos Açores de Santa Catarina launches this Saturday, at 11 am, at the Mercado Público store, the book Dos Vulcões ao Desterro, by the Azorean writer João Gago da Câmara, which is on the so-called “tenth island” of the archipelago that has nine. With reference to the note in the column of 16/09/2016, entitled "Shrunk", in which I mentioned the involution of the councilor Pedrão's assets, I publish the answer from his office: "We would like to clarify that Pedrão's assets have reduced, as his family had two apartments as real property, which were declared in the first election. Due to previous and old debts, the apartments were mortgaged, and based on this (judicial) mortgage, unfortunately, he had to sell one of the apartments to be able to pay this debt. On the two cars, he also had to sell in order to pay off the debts on the apartment, as well as part of the salary accumulated during that first term".
