Rua Victor Mierelles, where the eponymous museum of one of the most illustrious people from Santa Catarina in Brazil is located, is completely neglected. With buildings belonging to the state and federal governments, such as the museum itself, the Correios e Telégrafos, the former headquarters of the Secretary of Finance on the corner of Praça XV, the former State Institute and the former barracks of the Fifth Naval District, the central road the heart of the city is given over to cockroaches, rats and drug users left to their own devices. The buildings are being depredated, graffitied and invaded. While the city hall says every weekend it is for the population to invade the old center to enjoy cultural programs. What is this culture that abandons public buildings that should be used for and by the arts.

Deputy Governor Eduardo Pinho Moreira was the first to receive a request from the Casa dos Açores de Santa Catarina requesting the transfer of the mansion of the former Secretary of Finance to set up an Azorean museum with bookstores and spaces for art and crafts.
